Ever since passenger sides airbags were introduced, parents have been told it's safer to put their kids in the back. Now many more are dying from being forgotten in the back than from airbags. As Marshall McLuhan suggested in his work, a technology that was meant to do one thing is now having the opposite effect.

One reason they are forgotten is because of our increasingly fast-paced lifestyle. Americans feel more and more overworked. Part of this is due to our consumer culture. We are driven to get ahead so we can "better" ourselves.
